Hey guys! Today I'm going to be discussing the idea of remixing one another's work and how celebrities feel about it. I think we can all agree that whether it is a movie or a song Hollywood is always remixing. We constantly see romantic comedies being remixed. They have the same storyline just different characters. Although we all know how it is going to end, we are still attracted to watching these movies. We are also seeing remixing with songs. Other artist vibe off of another's song and puts their own twist to it. We see this happening specifically with DJs. They remake fast songs to slow, slow to fast, and even mix different songs together that have similar beats. Although there are many artists that do not enjoy their works being remixed, it is inevitable because everyone i always bouncing ideas off of one another. I think this changes the way that composing works. It adds another element, the element of collaboration. When re-using ones work, they can transform it into a completely new piece with a different message that the original artist never intended, and it can expand the meaning of the song as a whole. I think it is amazing to see how one persons song can strongly impact others, that they take it and relate it to their life in a way that is completely new. Two movies that are perfect example of remediations of another are No Strings Attached and Friends With Benefit. These two movies basically have the exact same story line but different actors that play in it. Although these movies are so similar they are so different because the actors transform it to fit themselves. Another example that is very popular right now is Justin Bieber's version of Despacito. There are certain singers that take reusing their work very seriously. Two examples are Michael Jackson and Prince. They do not like their music being remade, but an example of someone getting around it is the song "Eat It" by Weird Al, which was a parody of "Beat It" by Michael Jackson. This fell under fair use because it was a parody. I think the most important thing to make sure that those that remix and assemblage other works, is that you accredit the original artist for their original work that inspired your transformation.
