Doing pro-bono work for different organizations is the best way to gain experience and give back to your community at the same time. This opportunity to work on a campaign for an organization gave me a different perspective on what it means to compose. Composing isn't restricted to just a song or a paper, one can compose a video, a poster, a painting, a snapchat filter and so on. Composing is a category many pieces fall under. My team heavily worked on the editing process. When one is producing work for a client, it is important to meet their needs and wants before your own. My group went in having ideas and we came out with a different vision. Editing is all part of the learning process and although it can get frustrating to do the same thing over and over it helps you avoid mistakes in the future. Other teams had different ways of going about this project. One group decided to create a geofilter for snapchat which I was blown away by. I never considered doing that, and it could have been a perfect way to promote my groups event. Snapchat along with other social media platforms is a huge way to market and advertise your organization. As technology grows it is important that we adapt with it and social media is a huge part of that. Another aspect that I wish I thought of was creating a gif. This would not have fit my clients need but it was still a good idea and showcased what composing is in a different way. I think the biggest challenge for all the groups was the idea of circulation. It was really hard for all of us to track the success of circulation because we did not have the freedom to do so. One group was successful in tracking some of their pieces because they were able to view the clicks a fb event got. After reviewing, I think my team presented the best we could have but if I can change anything I would communicate with our client and voice how we need to circulate and track the circulation. If we voiced the importance of it, we may have gotten a different response and the help we needed to do so. Doing this project really taught me how to get work done in the real world. The key is communication and team work. If you are working with a team it is important to communicate with one another so everything gets done. I also learned to be upfront with my ideas and to not be scared of rejection. Everything is a trial and somethings may work and some may not. The worst thing to do is to put away an idea because you don't think it is good enough. You never know how someone else will view it or add to it and make it to be something great.
